Don’t Buy Into The Hype!

Have you noticed lately that the media has turned the American real estate market into a dumping ground for negativity? No one can claim the economy is in tip top shape, but is the real estate market really tanking?

I have been in the real estate business for several years, and my wife, her mother and her mother’s mother have worked in the business for more than 82 years combined. So, I know a little more than the average Joe about the business of real estate. The truth is that although the real estate market is more than awful in some areas of this country, it is stable or good in other areas.

However, if you watch the nightly news, you know that the primary focus is DOOM. We are doomed. Homes are not selling. People are living under bridges. Pretty soon, homes won’t even exist anymore. We’ll live in teepees out in the open air… bears will steal our food… we’ll revert back to horse and carriages because we cannot afford gas anymore… we’ll eat twigs and grass because our food supply has been tainted by the lead toys from China…

Of course I am being sarcastic here, but it proves the point that you simply cannot shrivel up and die just because of what you hear on the news. I sell real estate in the metro Atlanta area and I can tell you that we have our share of foreclosures, no doubt. But I can also tell you that we have a lot of home buyers, lots of commercial development happening and my agent friends are doing business every single day.

So, the moral of this story is- don’t panic! If “Joe Newsman” says it’s bad, don’t believe the hype. Call a Realtor who you trust and get the real scoop. We are out there everyday and we know what the “word on the street” is. We can help separate fact from fiction.
